Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar shared his admiration for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He revealed that he has been a fan of the wicket-keeper batter since his initial days. Gavaskar also opened up on rushing to meet the Chennai Super Kings captain at Chepauk after their final home game of the 2023 Indian Premier League season.
Ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League season, Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He expressed that admires the wicket-keeper’s attitude, behaviour and cricketing acumen. He also added that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a great role model for everyone. In a video shared by Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said,
“I have been his fan since the first time I watched him play. A fan wishes to meet his hero, chat with him, take his autograph, and click a picture. I saw he was taking a victory lap to thank the crowd at the Chepauk Stadium, during their final home game. I thought this was a good time because I admire Dhoni a lot for his cricket, his attitude, and his behaviour. As a role model, you have the responsibility to treat others well. He is a very good role model. The way he calmly conducts himself. “

In a heartwarming moment, Sunil Gavaskar rushed to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and asked him for an autograph after the last home match of the Chennai Super Kings last season. The players along with their captain were taking a lap of the Chepauk Stadium thanking the fans. Gavaskar requested an autograph which the wicket-keeper batter obliged.
“So I went and requested him for an autograph. I am very happy that he agreed to sign on my shirt. The shirt is kept very proudly in my house,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
