Siraj picked up 13 wickets in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2021. He was the highest wicket-taker for India despite missing the first game of the series. Siraj made his debut in the second Test at Melbourne after Mohammed Shami injured his hand.
Speaking about his debut moment on the trailer launch of ‘Bandon mein tha Dum,’ Mohammed Siraj revealed that he missed his father a lot at that time. Siraj said, “I finally got an opportunity in the second Test, When I wore my cap in Melbourne, I thought ‘dad should’ve been here. After Mohammed Shami got injured, I got a chance to play for India.”
Siraj further added:
“It was really tough for me. My dad was ill during the IPL too. But family members hadn’t told me that the matter was serious. I got to know about his condition when I landed in Australia. There was Covid-19 protocol as well. We had to quarantine. When we had our practice, I got to know about dad’s death.”

It took a lot of courage from Siraj to stay in Australia despite the death of his father. The Hyderabad pacer said that his mother gave him a lot of confidence in this tough time. Siraj revealed that his mother wanted him to complete the dream of his father and take it as a motivation to stay strong.
“My mother made me strong during that period. She told me, ‘Fulfil your dad’s dream and make your country proud. This was my only motivation. I didn’t even know if I will get a chance to play. There were senior bowlers in the team,’ Mohammed Siraj concluded.
