Despite a rare off day with the bat for Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a 201-run target against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 14.
Rohit managed 25 runs off 26 balls, but brilliant knocks from Ryan Rickelton, Tilak Varma and Will Jacks guided MI to an impressive victory. The five-time champions, despite being out of playoff contention, produced a strong all-round performance.
Meanwhile, a video from the MI dressing room has gone viral on social media, where Rohit was seen addressing the players and support staff. During the interaction, he humorously mocked his own slow-paced innings while appreciating the team’s effort in the chase.
“Guys, great win, it was a complete team effort with the bat. It was good to see everyone chip in while I was enjoying my bit of Test cricket,” Rohit quipped with a straight face, leaving the other MI players and support staff in splits.
Rohit, however, was full of praise for Ryan Rickelton, who smashed 48 runs off just 23 balls to make up for his slower innings. The duo added 61 runs in only 39 deliveries, helping Mumbai Indians keep the required run rate under control.
“Rick, as always he’s been doing, was great to watch because that start to us was important. It was not an easy pitch but the way he played, I think that start gave us that momentum to take the innings forward so,” he said.

Tilak Varma, Ryan Rickelton And Will Jacks Star As MI Seal Thrilling Win Over PBKS
While Ryan Rickelton provided Mumbai Indians with a strong start, Tilak Varma steadied the chase during the middle overs and guided the team to victory alongside Will Jacks with one ball remaining. Tilak remained unbeaten on 75 off 33 balls, while Jacks contributed a quick 25* from just 10 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings suffered their fifth straight defeat on Thursday. They now need to win at least one of their remaining two matches to stay alive in the playoff race.
