Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson made a sensational return to international cricket as he scored 77 against Ireland in the second T20I on Tuesday at The Village in Dublin. This was also his first half-century for India. However, Samson was disappointed to miss out on a century and harbours his dream to score a ton for the country.

Despite having a sensational campaign in IPL 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), he was left out of the five-match T20I series against South Africa. However, Sanju Samson made an international return in the two T20Is against Ireland.

Much to the dismay of the fans, he was left out of the playing XI in the first game. But a sudden injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad opened doors for the 28-year-old, who grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Speaking on Sony Network, Sanju Samson said:

“It was a good game. The partnership we had, in that type of condition, there was some movement off the wicket and the bowlers were bowling in the right areas. I think Hooda made it very easy for me. He started hitting from the word go. I’m very happy for Hooda, and some day, soon, I would like to get to that kind of a score (century). I’m very happy with the way I also batted.”

I’m a big fan of your batting – Ajay Jadeja on Sanju Samson

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja also spoke highly of the Kerala-born cricketer Sanju Samson, saying that he is a great fan of his batting.

“We would like to see you get those bigger totals when you get in there. Sorry, I’m being a little too harsh because I’m a big fan of your batting.”

It remains to be seen if Sanju Samson manages to hold his place in the upcoming limited-overs series against England, which gets underway on July 7 after the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
