The current generation is blessed to witness the greatness of India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith. Both of them has been a tremendous ambassador of the game taking batting to a whole new level. Meanwhile, the spectrum has found itself into two halves while picking the best among the two, and legendary Australia cricketer Ian Chappell also joined the bandwagon recently.

Kohli and Smith have been leading the debate making all the good noises with the bat. Both of them have scored consistently on all parts of the globe to lead their country. Virat Kohli currently is the only batsman to average over 50 in all three formats. He already has 70 international hundreds – 43 in ODIs and 27 in Tests. Furthermore, Kohli features in the top 10 if ICC rankings for batsmen in all three formats while hogging the No.1 spot in ODIs.

On the other hand, Steve Smith has made a staggering return to cricket after a 12-months ban due to ball-tampering scandals. He was at his peak during the Ashes 2019 when he single-handedly helped Australia to retain the Ashes urn. Moreover, Smith currently sits on the top of the Test rankings for batsmen.

Many cricketers and analysts have voiced their opinion while choosing one in between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. Recently, former Aussie skipper Ian Chappell, knowing for sharp criticisms, revealed his pick during a chat with Raunak Kapoor. The veteran snubbed his countrymen to pick Kohli as the best both as a batsman and a skipper.

When asked to pick between Kohli and Smith in a rapid-fire by Raunak Kapoor, Chappell first asked, “As captain or batsman?” To which Kapoor said, “You tell me.” Chappell then said: “I’d take Kohli both ways, as captain and batsman.”

Ian Chappell has represented Australia in 76 Tests and 16 ODIs and lead Australia to famous wins in West Indies and the Ashes in the 1970’s.
