Mohammed Shami has been on a roll ongoing World Cup 2023 with 23 wickets in 6 matches and hopes to provide another magical effort in the finals.

Shami made his ODI debut on 6th January 2013 against Pakistan at New Delhi. Since his debut, he grabbed a total of 194 wickets from 100 matches (99 innings) including best figures of 7 for 57 in the first semi-finals against New Zealand in World Cup 2023 on 15th November 2023.

He became the first Indian bowler to pick 50 wickets in World Cup history. Shami has taken a total of 4 wicket hauls in ODIs 10 times while 5 wickets in innings 5 times that proved his class apart.

  1. 7 for 57 vs New Zealand (2023 World Cup)

Mohammed Shami registered the best bowling figures by an Indian in One-day international cricket. He grabbed 7 for 57 in 9.5 overs during the first semi-finals against New Zealand played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 15th November 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj struggled initially in their opening spells. Shami was bought into the attack and dismissed Conway on his first delivery. He then dismissed Rachin Ravindra to put New Zealand under pressure. With the partnership between Kane and Mitchell going strong, Shami was bought into the attack dismissing Williamson and Latham in the same over to stall New Zealand’s progress.

He then got rid of Daryl Mitchell to pick his 5th wicket. Shami then dismissed Boult and Ferguson to finish with figures of 7 for 57 in 9.3 overs to bowl out New Zealand for 327. For his match-winning efforts, Shami was named the player of the match award.

  1. 5 for 18 vs Sri Lanka (2023 World Cup)

Mohammed Shami produced another magical spell in One-day international cricket. He created havoc with 5 for 18 against Sri Lanka in the 2023 league match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 2nd November 2023.

He got rid of Charith Asalanaka in his first over and looked lethal with some brilliant bowling. Shami then took Hemantha, Mathews, Chameera, and Rajitha’s wickets. He finished with figures of 5 for 18 in 5 overs to bowl out Sri Lanka for 55.

For his match 5 for 18 in 5 overs, Shami was named the player of the match award. India won that match by a massive 302-run margin.

  1. 5 for 51 vs Australia (2023)

Shami delivered the goods for the Indian team with 5 for 51 against Australia in the first One-day international match to be played at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 22nd October 2023.

It was a superb start as Shami got the breakthrough dismissing Mitchell Marsh in the first over itself. He then produced peach to dismiss Steve Smith and put breaks on Australian batting. Shami then dismissed the dangerous Stoinis, Matthew Short, and Sean Abbott to finish with figures of 5 for 51.

Shami’s bowling effort helped India bowl out Australia for 276 in 50 overs. For his match-winning efforts, he was named the player of the match award.

  1. 5 for 54 vs New Zealand (2023 World Cup)

Shami was included in the playing XI after Hardik’s Pandya was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. He dismissed Will Young in his first over putting New Zealand on backfoot.

He then broke the partnership by dismissing Rachin Ravindra putting brakes on New Zealand’s batting. Shami was lethal with his yorkers getting rid of Mitchell Santer and Matt Henry in the same over. It was a brilliant effort as he dismissed centurion Daryl Mitchell. His bowling effort restricted New Zealand to just 273 in 50 overs.

The Indian Cricket Team won the match by 4 wickets thanks to Kohli’s 95, quickfire knock by Rohit Sharma at the start.

  1. 5 for 69 vs England (2019 World Cup)

Shami was the pick of bowlers for India in the league match against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 30th June 2019. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow went to the attack right from the word go and put pressure on Indian bowling.

Shami struck to get rid of centurion Jonny Bairstow. He then dismissed Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, aggressive Jos Buttler, and Chris Woakes. It was a superb bowling effort as Shami finished with figures of 5 for 69 in 10 overs. Despite his efforts, England scored 337 for 7 in 50 overs.

The Indian Team could manage only 306 for 5 despite Rohit Sharma’s century, Kohli’s fifty, Pant, Hardik Pandya, and MS Dhoni’s knocks. They lost their only match in the league stage.
