Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock continued his brilliant form with another special knock against Bangladesh at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 24 October 2023. The South African wicketkeeper batter looked in sublime form with his 3rd century in this tournament.

South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first. They lost two early wickets of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie Van der Dussen cheaply. De Kock showed his intent to put pressure on Bangladesh’s bowling. He along with Aiden Markram kept momentum going with singles and hitting boundaries at will.

He completed his fifty off 47 deliveries and kept the momentum going for South Africa. Both de Kock and Markram made the batting look easy. Bangladesh captain Shakib got the breakthrough dismissing Markram with a simple catch at long-off. Klassen came to the crease taking attack to Bangladesh bowlers. He looked composed reaching his century off 101 deliveries.

The swashbuckling opener hammered the Bangladesh bowlers all over the park after completing his century. The wicketkeeper batter showed attacking abilities making life tough for Bangladesh bowlers and completed his 150 off 129 deliveries. It was a brutal display of batting by de Kock and Klassen with some lusty blows. His brilliant innings ended for 174 off 140 balls with 15 fours and 7 sixes.

It is the highest score by a wicketkeeper in World Cup history. De Kock 174 is the second-highest scorer by South Africa. Gary Kirsten still holds the record of top scorer by a South African in World Cup history.

He scored a century in the first match against Sri Lanka, followed by a brilliant 109 against Australia at Lucknow and then 174 against Bangladesh helping South Africa post 382 for 5 in 50 overs. David Miller scored a quickfire knock with some lusty blows that put enough pressure on the Bangladesh bowling on a placid batting pitch that had some help for the pacers.
