England all-rounder Ben Stokes showcased his batting prowess against the Netherlands in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match on Wednesday, November 8 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. He slammed his maiden World Cup century in the match to take England to a huge total.

Ben Stokes walked out to bat at number four following Joe Root’s dismissal. England was at 133/2 but soon got reduced to 192/6. They were in a spot of bother when Ben Stokes got together with Chris Woakes to build a solid partnership. The duo added 129 runs for the seventh wicket partnership to bail England out of trouble.

Ben Stokes slammed 108 runs in the innings off 84 deliveries at a strike rate of 128.57. He smashed six boundaries and as many sixes. Chris Woakes also scored a fifty, as England managed 339 runs in the first innings on the back of Stokes and Woakes’ partnership. Bas de Leede picked up three wickets for the Netherlands, while Logan van Beek and Aryan Dutt took two each.

Overall, Ben Stokes has scored 220 runs in five matches for England at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 83.01. He has a century and a fifty in the tournament so far. The fans were delighted to see Ben Stokes perform and get his maiden ICC ODI World Cup century.

Let’s take a look at how Twitterati reacted to Ben Stokes’ knock:

England’s dismal performance at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

The defending champions England will be highly disappointed with their performance at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They have won only one game so far in the tournament, against Bangladesh. They have lost six and are reeling at the bottom of the table with just two points. Owing to their poor performance and points table standing, England has failed to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan.
