The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the Team of the Tournament of the recently concluded ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Monday, November 20 a day after Australia lifted the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who had a great tournament, has been named as the captain.
The team features 5 more Indian players, including Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. Kohli was the leading run-scorer in the tournament, while Shami finished leading wicket-taker. KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are the other three Indian cricketers. Meanwhile, World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins did not find a place in the team. Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa are the only two players from the Australian team to make the curated XI.
South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who hit 4 hundreds, has been named as the wicketkeeper and the opener alongside Rohit. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell is the No. 4 for the team. Sri Lankan player Dilshan Madhushanka, who took 25 wickets in the tournament is also part of the team. No player from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Netherlands and Bangladesh managed to make it to the XI. South Africa’s fast bowler Gerland Coetzee has been named as the 12th member.
