5 Key Player Battles Between Sri Lanka and Asia Cup 2023

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has returned to Dhaka to train with his personal mentor Nazmul Abedeen Faheem in the middle of their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The rest of the team is in Kolkata for their upcoming match against the Netherlands, which is set to take place on Saturday, October 26 at Eden Gardens.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Shakib Al Hasan reached Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, a day after their loss against South Africa in Mumbai. He went straight to the Shere Bangla National Stadium for a training session with his personal mentor, Nazmul Abedeen Faheem. The session lasted about three hours and primarily comprised of throwdowns. The all-rounder will train for two more days, before re-joining the Bangladesh squad in Kolkata.

“He arrived today. We will be training for three days. Today, tomorrow and the day after, and then he will return to Kolkata. We worked on his batting today,” Faheem told ESPNcricinfo.

“Shakib probably feels comfortable working this way. I am not sure what we are going to do next – I will take each session as he wants,” he added.

Shakib Al Hasan’s dismal form in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Shakib Al Hasan has struggled to make an impact with the bat in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He hasn’t had a great time, scoring just 56 runs in four matches, at an average of 14. He has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 5.54. Bangladesh is reeling at position nine in the points table with just one win from five matches. They suffered a humiliating defeat against South Africa in their previous match. Bangladesh lost by 149 runs as they got all out for 233 chasing 383 runs.

The Shakib Al Hasan-led team has four matches remaining in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They will take on the Netherlands next, followed by matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia.
