5 Key Player Battles Between Sri Lanka and Asia Cup 2023

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of their last match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 due to an injury to his left index finger. They will be taking on Australia on Saturday, November 11 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Bangladesh has already been knocked out of the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan sustained the injury during Bangladesh’s previous match against Sri Lanka on Monday. He took a blow to his left index finger during batting. The all-rounder was in pain but took painkillers and continued his innings. He underwent scans in Delhi following the game. The scans confirmed a fracture to his left PIP joint. The Bangladesh batter can take up to a month to recover.

“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab,” said Bangladesh’s physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

Shakib Al Hasan played a match-winning knock against Sri Lanka in the last game. He scored 82 runs off 65 deliveries, with 12 boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 126.15. He also took two wickets in the match conceding 57 runs. The skipper won the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

Shakib Al Hasan opens up on Angelo Mathews’ dismissal

Shakib Al Hasan opened up on Angelo Mathews’ dismissal during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match. The Sri Lankan all-rounder was dismissed ‘timed-out’ in the game, which sparked a debate. Mathews was disappointed with Shakib’s appeal and has been vocal about his thoughts on it. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has also opened up on the dismissal. He said,

“One of our fielders came to me and said, if you appeal, the law says he’s out because he hasn’t taken his guard within the time frame. So, then I appealed to the umpires, who asked me If I was going to call him back or not. I said I won’t call him back.”

“I know him very well; he knows me very well. So, he came and asked me whether if I (will) withdraw my appeal or not If I wanted to, I said, you know, I understand your situation. It was unfortunate, but I don’t want to. It was in the rules that a batter has to come to the crease within that certain period and he wasn’t there at that time,” he added.
