Right before the warm-up game against the Netherlands to be played today at Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli missed a training session and went home for personal reasons. He is expected to join the Indian squad in Thiruvananthapuram on 2nd October 2023.

The first warm-up match between India and England at Guwahati did not happen due to heavy rains as Kohli left due to an emergency. He was not available for a training session at the local college ground. ”It was an optional session. He is expected to join the squad soon and could play the warm-up game if required,” a BCCI source privy to developments told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammed Shami did not attend the session as the likes of Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin attended the optional training session.

It will be the last chance for the Indian team to get some game time as the first match was washed out due to rain after Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first before heavy rains resulted in the match being called off.

During the training session, the likes of Gill, Surya, and KL Rahul practised a lot against the likes of Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin also spent time rolling their arm over. They will play a key role for India on tracks that will help the spinners.

The Indian team will look to get some practice ahead in the second warm-up match against the Netherlands to take place in Trivandrum on 3rd Oct from 2:00 PM IST. All the 15 players would look to get confidence ahead of the first match against Australia to be played on 8th October at Chennai.

Virat Kohli would play a key role in the World Cup 2023. Coming at number 3, he will look to dominate the bowling and help Team India win an ICC title after a gap of 10 years.
