ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: The Afghanistan Cricket Team Generously Give Away Tickets To Fans As A Kind Gesture

Afghanistan has faced a challenging beginning in the ODI World Cup 2023, but their fans have shown steadfast support.

Afghanistan’s cricket team has made rapid progress recently and, in a short time, has competed with some of the world’s top teams, even though they haven’t always won against stronger opponents.

What remains constant for the ‘Blue Tigers’ is the steadfast support from their fans. Since Afghanistan can’t host matches in their own country, their dedicated fans make a special effort to follow the team wherever they play.

In a heartwarming gesture, Afghanistan players are giving away their allocated tickets to fans during the matches in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. This tradition of sharing tickets with fans has been a part of Afghanistan’s team culture for some time.

“The tradition has been there for some time. We have given tickets to the fans in Dubai. We did the same when Afghanistan featured in the 2023 Asia Cup co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The trend continues in the World Cup as well,” the team official told The New Indian Express.

“The players normally request me for tickets. We usually get three to five tickets per player/official. Once I provide them with their quota, players put their tickets together for fans.”

”On receiving a request from fans, we keep these tickets in an envelope and leave it at the reception of the team hotel. The fans then collect it from there,” he added.

Afghanistan faces a difficult task in their next World Cup game

Hashmatullah Shahidi’s team didn’t begin the ODI World Cup 2023 on a high note. They lost to Bangladesh in their first game and were convincingly defeated by two-time champions India in their second match.

Next, Afghanistan will take on the defending champions, England, in their upcoming match on October 15th in Delhi. Currently, they are at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -1.907.
