ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: The Lucknow Police Arrested A Person For Selling Fake Tickets For The India vs England Match

An unknown person was arrested for selling fake tickets at inflated prices for the England vs. India World Cup cricket match at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. Around 100 other websites are currently being probed, and the Lucknow police’s cybercrime division is actively trying to identify those running these websites.

The Lucknow police disclosed that deceptive ticket sales took place on the website iccworldcuptickets.com in recent weeks. This deceitful website, designed to mislead cricket fans, was exposed by law enforcement.

In response, an FIR (First Information Report) against unidentified individuals was registered at the Sushant Golf City police station. Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Pratap Singh filed the FIR in anticipation of the crucial match scheduled for Sunday, as stated by Joint Commissioner of Police Upendra Agarwal.

Sharing further details, Singh clarified that the deceptive website was cleverly crafted to attract cricket fans, even though prior advisories had recommended using the official ticket booking partner, ‘BookMyShow,’ to purchase World Cup tickets.

This design made it enticing for people to get caught up in the scam, despite official recommendations. According to Singh, these misleading websites offered tickets in six different categories, with prices ranging from Rs 2,811 to Rs 50,000.

Social media profiles and websites are being closely examined as the demand for World Cup tickets increases

Genuine tickets are usually priced at Rs 499 for some sections and go up to Rs 40,000 for North Corporate boxes. However, there’s a specific website promoting tickets at much higher prices, such as Rs 25,000, Rs 30,000 for different seating areas, and Rs 85,000 for specific hospitality seats. The police are now investigating this fake social media site.

Prashant Kumar, the Special Director General of Law and Order for the Uttar Pradesh Police, mentioned that special police units in the state and the Lucknow police are keeping a close eye on questionable social media accounts involved in the illegal reselling of World Cup cricket tickets for Ekana Stadium.

He warned that those involved in these activities would be subject to serious consequences.
