ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “They Didn’t Call Me So I Did Not Go” – Kapil Dev Reveals He Wasn’t Invited For The Final

Former India World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev revealed that he was not invited to the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final between India and Australia on Sunday, November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match was attended by several Indian celebrities and former cricketers.

According to a few reports, all the former World Cup-winning captains were invited by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to attend the 2023 World Cup final. However, Kapil Dev revealed that he wasn’t invited to the marquee clash by the governing body. The former Indian skipper was asked why did not attend the clash. Speaking on ABP Live, he responded,

“I wasn’t invited there. They didn’t call me so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole ’83 team to be there with me but I guess due to the fact that it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget.”

Kapil Dev represented India from 1978 to 1994 in International cricket. He played 131 Test matches and 225 ODIs, scoring over 9000 runs, including nine centuries. He has also taken 687 wickets across the two formats. The all-rounder led India to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 1983.
