In the match, Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, chose to bat after winning the toss. Starting with Shubman Gill, Rohit faced the new ball from New Zealand’s Trent Boult and Tim Southee. Instead of being defensive, Rohit played aggressively, hitting boundaries and sixes. This helped India reach 60 runs in seven overs, setting a strong start for their innings.

Later in the ninth over, paceman Tim Southee surprised Rohit with a slower delivery. Rohit mistimed his shot, and the ball went high in the air. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson made an excellent catch at mid-off, concluding Rohit’s impactful innings (47 off 29). As of now, India has accumulated 178 runs, losing one wicket in 25 overs.

Shubman Gill had temporarily left the field after scoring 79 runs from 65 balls, while Virat Kohli was at the crease with an unbeaten 45 alongside Shreyas Iyer.

Moving forward in the current ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal, the Indian team aims to score over 350 on the challenging Wankhede surface, which will be tough for the opposition in the second inning.

Virat Kohli is eyeing to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, while Shreyas Iyer is keen to maintain his outstanding form, as none of the Kiwi bowlers have proven effective against them so far.
