ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH] David Warner Helps Ground Staff To Bring Covers; Fans React

The Australian Cricket Team made a tremendous comeback to bowl out Sri Lanka for 209 played at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow on 16^th October 2023. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to bat first. David Warner held the spirit of the game helping the Lucknow groundstaff to bring covers when little rain took place.

Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka put the pressure right from the word go against Australian bowling. Both Lankan openers looked well settled hitting boundaries and rotating the strike. Australian captain Pat Cummins got the breakthrough dismissing Nissanka with a stunning catch by David Warner. Nissanka and Kusal Perera added 125 runs for the opening wicket.

Cummins then struck again to dismiss Kusal Perera. Adam Zampa took two wickets in succession dismissing Kusal Mendis with another stunning catch by Warner. The leg spinner then got rid of Sadeera Samawickrama to put the Lankan team under pressure. With the scoreboard reading 178 for 4, the rain arrived and David Warner showed great his human nature by helping Lucknow ground staff to bring on the covers.

After the delay, Australian bowlers put pressure on the Lankan bowlers. Starc dismissed Dhanajaya de Silva taking inside onto the stumps. A superb direct hit by Pat Cummins ended in the wicket of Dunith Wellage putting enough pressure. Zampa struck twice dismissing Chamika Karaunate and Mahesh Theekshana in quick succession. Starc then got rid of Lahiru Kumara with another yorker.

Charith Asalanaka tried his best to hit big shots but was eventually dismissed caught by Labuschagne at long-on. It was a superb bowling effort by the Australian team as they bundled Sri Lanka for 209 in 43.3 overs after a brilliant 125 runs-opening partnership between Perera and Nissanka.

For Australia, Adam Zampa was the pick of bowlers with 4 wickets while Starc and Cummins took 2 wickets, Maxwell 1, and 1 run-out.
