Najmul Hossain Shanto advised Shakib Al Hasan to call for a time-out in the first innings. Tensions ran high in the Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka Match 38 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with multiple heated incidents taking place during the game.

The dispute began when Angelo Mathews was ruled out following an appeal by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. The Sri Lankan team was displeased with the decision, leading to several confrontations during the second innings.

One notable incident occurred when the first wicket fell, and Najmul Hossain Shanto approached Shakib to request the timed-out dismissal. The Sri Lankan team didn’t forget Shanto’s actions, and when he walked out to bat, they greeted him with some unkind words.

Sadeera Samarawickrama even approached the Bangladesh batsman for a brief exchange, but the on-field umpire intervened to separate them. Samarawickrama’s comments fired up Shanto, who then played a brilliant innings of 90 with 12 boundaries.

Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan shared a crucial 169-run partnership for the third wicket, helping stabilize Bangladesh’s innings after losing early wickets.
