ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH]- Trent Boult Picks Up A Wicket On The First Ball

Trent Boult gave New Zealand an excellent beginning in their 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 13. The star fast bowler claimed the important wicket of Bangladesh opener Litton Das, who was dismissed without scoring any runs.

The wicket fell when Boult bowled an inswinger targeting the pads. Das flicked it in the air towards the leg side, and Matt Henry, positioned at fine leg, executed a well-timed jump to take the catch.

On his 29th birthday, Litton Das, who celebrated on Friday, had shown a return to form by scoring 76 runs against England in their previous World Cup match. Unfortunately, Bangladesh suffered a loss in that game, falling short by 137 runs.

Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, chose to field first after winning the toss in the 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh on Friday. Williamson made a return to the team, having missed the initial two games against England and the Netherlands, taking the place of Will Young in the lineup.

During toss, he said: “We will bowl first, think it’s a good surface. Nice to take part in those warm-up games and nice to be standing here. I am coming for Will Young.”

In the meantime, Bangladesh introduced a single alteration, with Mahmudullah coming in for Mahedi Hasan.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said: “Was a bit confused (about what to do), but we don’t mind batting first. We didn’t start well with bat and ball in the last two games and these are the two areas we are looking to improve. One change – Mahmudullah comes in for Mahedi.”

As of now, Bangladesh stands at 46/2 after 10 overs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto currently batting. Tanzid Hasan got out for 16 (17) thanks to Lockie Ferguson’s bowling.

For those who might not know, Bangladesh won their first match against Afghanistan by six wickets but suffered a 137-run defeat against England in their second game. On the flip side, New Zealand defeated England and the Netherlands by nine wickets and 99 runs, respectively.
