ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH] Virat Kohli’s Dismissal Leaves Everyone Shocked In The Final vs Australia

In the 2023 World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19, the renowned Indian batsman Virat Kohli experienced a moment of disbelief and dismay. His batting prowess came to an abrupt halt when he inadvertently chopped a delivery from Australian skipper Pat Cummins onto his stumps, leaving him visibly distraught on the pitch.

Kohli, who was at a score of 54, had attempted to manoeuvre a short delivery from Cummins towards the third-man area for a single, but the tight delivery ended up ricocheting back onto his stumps. The Australian players celebrated the crucial wicket, while Virat Kohli, seemingly aware of the unfavourable timing of his dismissal, stood on the pitch in contemplation.

The video capturing this pivotal moment reflected the emotions of the Indian captain as he grappled with the unfortunate turn of events. Before Kohli’s dismissal, the Indian team faced challenges with three wickets down for 81 runs, despite a brisk start by captain Rohit Sharma, who contributed 47 runs off 31 balls. The powerplay yielded 80 runs for the Men in Blue on a slower pitch.

The onus was on Kohli and KL Rahul to establish a partnership and avert the risk of a batting collapse. Kohli and Rahul adopted a cautious approach throughout their partnership, adding 67 runs in 109 balls for the fourth wicket. It appeared that they intended to continue this strategy until the 30th-35th over before accelerating the run rate.

However, Kohli’s unexpected dismissal disrupted this plan, leaving Rahul tasked with anchoring the innings. In response to Kohli’s departure, India made a strategic move by promoting Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Suryakumar Yadav.

The hope is that the right-hand-left-hand combination of Rahul and Jadeja not only builds a substantial partnership but also accelerates the scoring rate, aiming to reach the 280-run mark as they strive for success in the World Cup final.
