The Indian spearhead Mohammed Siraj became the number-ranked One-day international bowler rankings. It was a superb bowling effort by him in the finals of Asia Cup 2023 against host Sri Lanka.
Mohammed Siraj showed his brilliant fast bowling skills and picked up 6 for 21 in 7 overs. He was breathing fire with a lethal bowling effort. Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samawickrama, Charith Asalanaka, and Dhanajaya de Silva in one over to put Sri Lanka in deep trouble at 12 for 5.
He then produced a peach to dismiss Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka. Siraj then grabbed the wicket of Kusal Mendis with another beauty. It was a remarkable bowling effort as he ended with figures of 6 for 21 in 7 overs. For his brilliant performance, Siraj was named the player of the match.
After his 6 for 21, Mohammed Siraj gained 51 points in the rankings and jumped to number 1 in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. He returned to the number 1 spot after brilliant performances in the home ODI series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka displacing Josh Hazlewood.
Siraj finished the tournament with 10 wickets and finished as the 2nd leading wicket-taker behind Matheesha Pathirana. India’s pace bowler would look to continue his superb form when India takes on Australia in the 3-match ODI series starting from 22nd September. The three matches will take place on 22nd, 24th and 27th September.
Shubman Gill occupies the 2nd spot despite being the leading run-getter in Asia Cup 2023. Virat Kohli climbs one spot up to number 8th in the batters rankings. India’s captain Rohit Sharma remains at number 10th place.
Kuldeep Yadav slips down three places to number 9th in ODI rankings. He did not feature in the match against Bangladesh and bowled only 1 over in the finals against Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill has a chance to occupy the spot top as he will look to score runs in the ODI series against Australia. Gill is 43 points behind Babar Azam.
