Dale Steyn very cheekily has expressed his desire to become India’s bowling coach and take the opportunity certainly if it comes his way. India are set to start their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24. Ahead of that game, India play two warm-up games. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has also joined the Indian team as a mentor.
Reacting to an Instagram post from ESPNcricinfo, which read, “If you are in a phone call with Dhoni, what would you say to him?” the 38-year-old commented, “Sign me up as bowling coach haha”. Meanwhile, the BCCI has signed up Rahul Dravid as Ravi Shastri’s successor. There are also openings for India’s bowling and fielding coaches as the tenure of Bharat Arun and R Sridhar is also coming to an end.
On the other hand, Paras Mhambrey will take over as the new bowling coach after Bharat Arun. He has worked closely with Rahul Dravid in junior cricket to gain his confidence.
The post went viral soon after the speedster commented and many cricket fans were delighted to see Steyn’s wish to associate with Team India. Steyn recently worked with Star Sports as an expert for the recently concluded IPL season.
Steyn announced his international retirement after the 2019 ICC World Cup. He played 93 Test matches, picking 439 and finished eighth on the all-time list of wicket-takers. He also played 125 ODIs, picking 196 wickets and 47 T20Is, in which he claimed 64 wickets.
