Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was selected in India’s 18-member T20 squad for the T20 World Cup to be played in the UAE. He found a place in the initial 15-member squad with Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur named as stand-by players. The Indian off-spinner makes a comeback to the limited-overs squad for the first time since 2017.
Meanwhile, after getting selected in the squad, Ravichandran Ashwin posted a tweet of a quote that he wrote after getting dropped from the white-ball squad after 2017.
“2017: I wrote this quote down a million times in my diary before putting this up on the wall! Quotes that we read and admire have more power when we internalise them and apply in life” wrote Ashwin.
“Every tunnel has light at the end of it, but only those in the tunnel who believe in the light will live to see it” Ashwin wrote.

Meanwhile, there were a few shocking inclusions and exclusions from the squad. along with Ashwin, Varun Chakravarty and Axar Patel were included. Both have not played white-ball cricket regularly since a few years and thus their inclusions were surprising.
Meanwhile, the exclusion of Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal from the main squad was surprising. Chahal was Virat Kohli’s go-to man with the ball since the last few years and being a leg spinner he was deemed to be included.
Meanwhile, Indian Chief Selector Chetan Sharma revealed the reason behind, Ashwin’s selection.
“Ravichandran Ashwin has been playing in the IPL regularly. He has performed well there. When you go into the World Cup, you need an off-spinner, everyone has an idea that the wickets in the UAE will get slower as IPL will also be played there,” said Sharma during a virtual press conference.
Regarding, axing Chchal from the squad Sharma said that he wanted spinners who bowled quick and thus Chakravarty was selected over him.
‘Spinners who bowl quick was our priority. Hence, we went with Rahul Chahar,” while he admitted that Varun Chakravarthy is “surprise package as a mystery bowler” said Sharma.
