New Zealand’s 8-wickets win against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, resulted in Team India’s ouster from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

India has four points from four matches and ranks third on the points table in Group 2. Their hopes to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament were dependent on Afghanistan’s win against the Kiwis. However, New Zealand has secured the semis spot after their victory against the Mohammad Nabi-led team.

Former cricketer Virender Sehwag shared a meme on his Twitter account, about India’s campaign ahead in the tournament. Posting a Rahul Gandhi meme, he wrote, “India’s campaign at the #ICCT20WorldCup”,

Virender Sehwag picks his choice for India’s T20 captain

Virender Sehwag has expressed his choice to replace Virat Kohli as the T20 skipper of India. A few months ago, Kohli announced his decision to step down from the captaincy post in the shortest format, after the conclusion on the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The match against Namibia on Monday will mark the end of Kohli’s T20 captaincy for India.

In a Facebook Watch show Virugiri Dot Com, Virender Sehwag asserted that Rohit Sharma will be the perfect choice to take over the captaincy job. He highlighted Rohit’s success with the Mumbai Indians. Sehwag said,

“I think there are many candidates for captain, but I think Rohit is the best candidate. He has done well as a leader for the Mumbai Indians team in the IPL. He has won the IPL championship five times. So according to me, the next T20 captain of Team India should be Rohit Sharma.”

The BCCI is expected to announce India’s new T20 skipper in the next couple of days, before New Zealand’s tour of India.
