Former Windies skipper Jason Holder has been roped in as a replacement for an injured Obed McCoy in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. He played the opening game against England and has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a right shin injury. Windies meanwhile, have lost both their games and their semi-final qualification seems doubtful at the moment.

Jason Holder’s addition to the squad has already been approved by the ICC. He was in the squad already as a reserve player and now he has been drafted into the main squad.

“Jason Holder has been in the UAE for a while now and will fit quite well into the team unit. He is an experienced and knowledgeable cricketer who we know will be eager and excited to grab the opportunity” Roger Harper, CWI’s lead men’s selector said.

“McCoy did really well in the T20Is earlier this year and adapted well in the opening match against England. He was a key member of the bowling unit and it’s unfortunate he won’t be able to take any further part in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field ready to go again in the near future” he further said on Obed Mcoy.

West Indies have struggled to get runs with the bat in their first two games. The same was eluded to by Kieron Pollard their skipper after their loss to South Africa. Windies were bowled out for just 55 against England in a dramatic batting collapse. Against South Africa, they were restricted to 143/8 which the Proteas side chased down comfortably.

“We haven’t scored enough runs. Batters haven’t come to the party, again disappointing today. I thought the first six overs in terms of end result.. 43/0, we will take that. Not losing wickets in the powerplay was important. We lost a couple of wickets later and it was just stop-start. Yes he (Simmons) got stuck, these things happen. After six overs he was there and we wanted to bat a couple of more overs without losing wickets but you are not going to get me pinpoint and you are not going to get me throwing my players under the bus” said Pollard.
