After the team was selected for the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and United States of America from 2nd June onwards, the chief selector came for the press conference. He talked about various issues including Rinku Singh being dropped from playing 15 and was named during one of the reserves for the mega event.
Rinku Singh made his T20I debut against Ireland on 18th August 2023. He has tremendous form and consistency in the 15 T20I matches he has played so far with 11 innings with 356 runs with the best score of 69 not out against South Africa at a strike rate of 176.23.
Singh did not get many chances to bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was named an impact player and played a few cameos that put pressure on the bowlers with his aggressive style of play.
“It’s probably the toughest thing we had to discuss. He has done nothing wrong. I don’t think it has anything to do with Rinku Singh. It’s not his fault that he has missed out. It’s more the 15 that we felt gives with two keepers who are already terrific batters. So we just thought having another bowling option would be handy. He is still one of the traveling subs. That’s how close he was.”
“It’s part of life. Not everything will go your way. I have not been captaining before as well and I have played under other captains. So, it is nothing new to me. You try to do whatever you can do as a player, and I have only tried to do that for the last month or so.”
Rohit Sharma also talked about why he opted for four spinners in the 15-member squad. The Indian team will play their first match on 5th June against Ireland before they face arch-rivals Pakistan on 9th June.
A good chance for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to win ICC title
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might play their last ICC tournament. The Indian team lost in the finals of the 2023 edition to Australia after winning 10 matches in a row and would be eager to showcase their skills on West Indies and USA pitches helping Team India win the T20 title after 2007.
