The Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming T20 World Cup is to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America. It looks like a balanced squad with lots of experience. Former Indian player Kris Srikanth questioned Shubman Gill’s place in the reserves replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Yuzvendra Chahal have done well for their respective franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League and will get a chance to feature. It is a huge moment for all these cricketers to represent the country in such a big tournament.

“Shubman Gill is totally out of form, but why he’s selected in the team? There’s no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad deserves a place. He scored more than 500 runs in 17 innings. Also, he scored a century against Australia. Shubman Gill is the selectors’ delight. He gets a chance even if he fails. He finds a place even if he fails in Test, ODIs, and T20s. There’s too much favoritism in selection. The team selection is all about favoritism,” Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel ‘Cheeky Chekka.’
Shubman Gill’s performance and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s performance in IPL 2024
Since becoming the captain of Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill looked out of sorts in the IPL 2024 so far. He has made so far with 320 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) including 2 half-centuries including the best score of 89 not out against Punjab Kings.
On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad has shown tremendous consistency so far in Chennai Super Kings. He is currently the leading runs scorer this season with 509 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) with 4 fifties and 1 century including the best score of 108 not out against Lucknow Super Giants.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been tremendous with his ability to hit big shots and put pressure on the bowlers with his aggressive style. Apart from a few innings, Shubman Gill looked out of sorts with his strike rate while Gaikwad was impressed with his aggressive style and made sure that CSK posted decent totals.
