ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Lockie Ferguson Makes History By Bowling Four Maiden Overs Against Papua New Guinea Match

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson accomplished an extraordinary achievement in the Group C match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against Papua New Guinea (PNG). The right-arm paceman bowled his entire allocation of four overs without conceding a single run, achieving four maidens in Trinidad on Monday, June 17th.

The contest was postponed initially due to rain, yet it commenced without any overs being compromised. Despite the Blackcaps being eliminated from the tournament after defeats to Afghanistan and the West Indies, they appeared resolute in concluding their campaign impressively.

Ferguson was assigned with bowling the fifth over and made an immediate impact, claiming the wicket of opposition captain Assad Vala with his first delivery, caught by Daryl Mitchell at wide slip. He continued to build pressure with consecutive dot balls, delivering another maiden right after the powerplay ended.

Lockie Ferguson took the wicket of Charles Amini in his third over after New Zealand reviewed the decision. The Papua New Guinea batsmen faced difficulties throughout as Ferguson bowled another maiden over.

Ferguson achieved an exceptional feat when he claimed his third wicket with the second delivery of the final over, dismissing Chad Soper who chopped the ball onto his stumps.

The new batsman, Kiplin Doriga, managed to score some leg byes, but Ferguson maintained his impressive figures, ending with 3 wickets for 0 runs from his 4 overs. Lockie Ferguson’s bowling performance was instrumental in limiting Papua New Guinea to a modest total. Papua New Guinea were eventually dismissed for 78 runs in 19.4 overs.

In the 2021 Americas Region Qualifier match against Panama in Coolidge, Canada’s captain Saad Bin Zafar became the first bowler to bowl an entire spell without conceding a run. He completed his four overs with figures of 0 runs conceded and 2 wickets taken. Canada won the match by a margin of 208 runs.
