Former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly has thrown his weight behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the ideal opening pair for India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the West Indies and the USA starting from June 2. With squad selection looming, Ganguly highlights the outstanding performances of both players in the IPL 2024.
Ganguly asserts that Kohli and Rohit are locked for the T20 World Cup squad, citing their exceptional form and stressing the need for prudent selection choices. Expressing personal conviction, the 51-year-old predicts the duo will play crucial roles at the top of the order. Additionally, he endorses Rohit’s candidacy for the team’s leadership.
Ganguly said: “Both Rohit Sharma and Viral Kohli will definitely go to West Indies and USA. It’s a call for selectors whom they will open with but if you ask me personally both Rohit and Virat should open for India in the T20 World Cup. Of course, Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen (to return after 14 months).”
