The England Cricket Team suffered a huge blow as star all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in West Indies and United States of America starting from 1st June onwards.

England is currently the defending Champions of the shortest format. Stokes played a key role in helping them to win the title that they won in the 2022 edition played in Australia. It will be a massive blow as Stokes plays a key role with both bat and ball.

Under his captaincy, England suffered a 1-4 loss in the 5-match Test series against India in India. Stokes looked out of sorts not able to post big scores that would put pressure on the Indian team.

Stokes bowled in the final Test match at Dharmshala and took the big wicket of Rohit Sharma with a beauty. The star all-rounder opted out of IPL 2024 due to workload management. He was bought by CSK for Rs 16.25 Crore but featured in 2 IPL matches during the 2023 season.

Ben Stokes took his retirement back for the 2023 World Cup played in India. England failed to qualify for the semi-finals due to disappointing performances. Stokes looked impressive with the maiden World Cup century against the Netherlands. He then followed with quickfire knock against Pakistan to sign the tournament.

“The recent Test tour of India highlighted how far behind I was from a bowling point of view after my knee surgery and nine months without bowling. I’m looking forward to playing for Durham in the County Championship before the start of our Test summer,” he added.

“I’m working hard and focusing on building my bowling fitness back up to fulfill a full role as an all-rounder in all formats of cricket,” Stokes said in a statement.

England’s schedule in World Cup 2024

Jos Buttler and Co will defend their title in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. They are pitted with Namibia, Australia, Scotland, and Oman in Group B.

England will start their tournament against Scotland at Barbados on 4th June. After this, they would face arch-rivals Australia at the same venue on 8th June.

They will play Namibia on 13th June and then the final league match on 15th June. The final two group matches will be played at North Sound, Antigua. After this, the top two teams in each group would qualify for the Super 8 Stage.

“I wish Jos (Buttler), Motty (Matthew Mott) and all the team the best of luck in defending our title.”
