The future of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia later this year hangs by the wire. The International Cricket Council is yet to decide on its fate. As speculations continue to rife, Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Earl Eddings on Tuesday said that it is an unrealistic dream.

ICC T20 World Cup looks unrealistic – Earl Eddings

However, Earl Eddings has ruled out any chances of hosting the ICC T20 World Cup. With many global borders still closed due to virus-related travel restrictions, the tournament looks highly unlikely.

“While it hasn’t been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it’s unrealistic, or it’s going to be very, very difficult,” he told reporters.

Adding further, Earl Eddings said that Cricket Australia has put forward their opinion and a couple of options to the global body. The most likely scenario appears to be rescheduling the tournament until next year.

“The ICC are having meetings as we speak, it’s a bit of a movable feast at the moment,” he said.

Should that ICC T20 World Cup not take place, BCCI is likely to utilise the window to host IPL 2020. Scheduled to commence from March 29, the governing body had to postpone the tournament owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sourav Ganguly-led body is now considering a number of options to host the tournament later this year. UAE and Sri Lanka have already offered to host the 13th edition of IPL.
