The Scotland women’s team registered an emphatic 8 wicket win over Ireland in the first semi-finals of T20 World Cup qualifiers played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 5th May 2024.

Ireland captain Laura Delany won the toss and decided to bat first. Kathrine Bryce got two wickets in the first over dismissing Amy Hunter and Gaby Lewis. Orla Prendergast was run out with a mix-up. Katherine dismissed Ireland captain Laura Delany to leave Ireland’s women in big trouble. At the end of the first six overs, Ireland’s women looked in trouble at 25 for 4.

Ireland’s team lost wickets at regular intervals leaving them in dire straits at 47 for 6. Ariane Kelly and Leah Paul steadied the ship putting some pressure on the Scottish bowlers. Both added 60 runs for the 7th wicket that rescued their innings. It was a good bowling performance as they restricted Ireland women to just 110 for 8 in 20 overs. Kathrine Bryce took 4 for 8, Racheal Slater 3 for 32 which was enough to restrict the opponents to a modest total.

Chasing down 111 runs to win, it was a steady start for Saskia Horley and Megan McColl scoring 41 runs in the first six overs. Horsley’s struggle ended after being dismissed for 10 runs. Horley and McColl put on 49 runs for the opening wicket.

Scotland women’s captain Kathrine Bryce and Megan steadied the ship with positive intent keeping the scoreboard ticking. Megan reached fifty off 46 deliveries keeping Scotland women on course for a famous win. Megan and Bryce added 49 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Bryce and Sarah Bryce completed the formalities as the Scotland women’s team registered an 8-wicket win with 22 balls to spare. For her unbeaten 35 off 29 balls and 4 for 8, Scotland women’s captain Katherine Bryce was named the player of the match award.

Scotland Women were clubbed with Sri Lanka, Scotland, Thailand, Uganda, and the USA. They started the tournament thrashing Uganda by 109 runs in their opening match. Scotland team lost their next match against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.

Scotland’s team registered a commanding 44-run victory over the USA and then 6 -wicket win over Thailand to finish 2nd in the group.
