Pakistan youngster Ubaid Shah expressed that he looks up to his brother Naseem Shah for inspiration. Ubaid has been brilliant for the Pakistan team in the ongoing U19 World Cup 2024, while Naseem is already an established player in Pakistan cricket.
Ubaid Shah is the third-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing U19 World Cup 2024. He has taken 17 wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 4.06. He took a 5-wicket haul against Bangladesh at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. The youngster expressed that he watching his brother rip through the opposition’s batting lineups makes him happy. He said,
“If I talk about individual performances, I watch my brother (Naseem Shah) a lot. I get happy watching the team perform well but seeing Naseem do well makes me happier for obvious reasons.”
“He performed well against New Zealand and Afghanistan and when I faced the two teams in the tournament, I too bowled well, even in the crucial match against Bangladesh. This has made me the most happy,” he added.
Won’t give a second chance: Ubaid Shah
Pakistan lost to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the semi-final of the U19 Asia Cup last year. Ubaid Shah expressed that they want to make amends in the semi-final of the U19 World Cup 2024 against Australia to be played on Thursday, February 8 in Benoni. He said,
“We reached the semi-final of the Asia Cup as well and lost closely. We will learn from our mistakes and improve on them. We won’t give a second chance now to another team.”
Pakistan was in Group 1 in the Super Six stages of the U19 World Cup 2024. They have been unbeaten in the tournament so far, winning all the five matches they have played so far. While Ubaid Shah has been their leading wicket-taker in the ongoing tournament, Shahzaib Khan is their leading run-scorer. He has scored 260 runs in five matches, including a century and a fifty.
