It’s been reported that the average hotel prices in Ahmedabad have increased by almost 15 times due to the upcoming India–Pakistan World Cup 2023 match scheduled in the city.
The highlight match of the ICC tournament is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 14th. Initially planned for October 15th, this game was one of the nine matches that got rescheduled following the announcement of the revised schedule by the International Cricket Council.
The change in the World Cup 2023 match schedule has created difficulties for fans who had made hotel reservations based on the original timetable. According to a report on ESPNcricinfo, hotel prices in Ahmedabad have surged to 15 times their regular rates.
“A hotel that charges ₹4000 a night on average is going at upwards of ₹60,000 a night on twin-sharing basis on booking.com,” the report stated.
According to the report, fans seeking luxury accommodations will need to allocate substantial funds, as packages for staying in upscale hotels are priced at around ₹50,000 for a two-night stay.
Additionally, fans could encounter additional challenges when making bookings, as the BCCI has also secured lodging for its sponsors and associated partners.
In addition to the India-Pakistan World Cup match, the final group-stage game for India against the Netherlands at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has also been shifted to the day after, now scheduled for November 11th.
Obtaining physical tickets might present an added difficulty for fans of the World Cup
Besides the concern of reserving hotels at high costs, cricket enthusiasts gearing up for the India-Pakistan showdown in Ahmedabad must also deal with the need to secure physical tickets. The BCCI has emphasized that electronic tickets will not grant access to the stadiums.
ICC’s update reveals that tickets for India’s Ahmedabad matches go on sale on September 3. BCCI mandates collecting physical tickets a day before the game, adding to fans’ challenges of managing accommodations and ticket retrieval.
It’s worth noting that fans had to wait in lengthy lines to receive tickets before the Indian Premier League 2023 final, held earlier this year at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
