Team India registered 5 wicket win in the fourth Test match against England played at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi on 26th February 2024. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma began the fourth day at 40 for 0. Indian openers started well putting on 84 runs for opening wicket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal lost his wicket with a stunning catch by James Anderson. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a well-made 55. After the lunch break, Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed off successive deliveries to leave India in trouble at 120 for 5.

Dhurv Jurel and Shubman Gill soaked into the pressure with some solid defense and then put pressure on England’s bowlers. Gill completed his fifty while Jurel remained not out on 39. Both added unbeaten 72 runs for the 6th wicket that helped India win the match by 5 wickets and seal the series by 3-1 with one game to spare.

This win ensures that India consolidates their 2nd spot in the 2023-25 ICC World Test championship cycle. Rohit Sharma and Co made a strong comeback into the match as India looked to concede a big lead before Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav’s partnership for the 8th wicket ensured that reduced to 46 run lead.

Before this test match, the Indian cricket team’s percentage points was 59.52. This victory meant that they moved to 64.58 after their 5-wicket win over England in the fourth test.

The World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle could see more changes as New Zealand will face Australia in the 2-match Test series from 29th February onwards while India will face England in the 5th encounter to be played at Dharmshala from 7th March onwards.
