According to Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre, Prithvi Shaw’s absence from the last few games was warranted given how Abishek Porel took advantage of his opportunities.

Shaw’s recent struggles with form have resulted in his being dropped from the team. Pravin Amre’s statement emphasizes the necessity of consistency in cricket, as maintaining one’s performance is required to secure a spot in the team.

Shaw, who participated in eight games, amassed 198 runs with a strike rate of 163.63 and an average of 24.75. He also hit a half-century. Shaw didn’t participate in the season’s first two matches, but in his debut against the Chennai Super Kings, he quickly hit 43 off 27 balls.

In addition, he scored 66 off 40 balls against the Mumbai Indians, but after that, his form soured. Porel, on the other side, struck out 159.51 with a strike rate of 327 runs in 12 innings. The left-hander fashioned a 92-run partnership with Shai Hope for the second wicket on Tuesday, hammering home 58 off 33 balls and assisting DC in scoring 73 in the powerplay.

“Prithvi Shaw was our retained played”-Pravin Amre

Prithvi Shaw’s benching from the last few games, argues Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre, was warranted given how Abishek Porel took advantage of his opportunities. In eight games, Shaw amassed 198 runs at a strike rate of 163.63 and an average of 24.75, with one half-century.

“He [Shaw] was our retained player, and as you see, in the last four [of five] games, he was also on the bench. But that’s the IPL, If you are not in form, you can’t [keep your place. Ultimately, the pressure for the team is so great that every game is important and we have to win,” Pravin Amre said after the DC game vs. LSG.

“And we had done that. Without playing him, we won the games. And whoever got the opportunity… I think Abishek grabbed the opportunities with both hands. What an innings [Porel] played today,” Amre said. “We saw Jake [Fraser-McGurk] getting out in the first over and even then we managed to get 73 runs in the powerplay. I think that’s what was so critical and the credit goes to Shai Hope and Porel for getting that 92-run partnership today” Pravin Amre added.

Porel scored 159 runs in three matches as an opener, with a strike rate of 165.62. Both of his half-centuries ranked at the top of the order.
