IPL 2024: Sanjiv Goenka Holds Another Public Discussion With KL Rahul After DC vs LSG Match

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka engaged in another post-match conversation with captain KL Rahul and coach Justin Langer after DC dashed their playoff qualification hopes. In today’s digital age, little escapes the attention of the internet, especially when it concerns Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul.

The Lucknow Super Giants owner and captain have been making headlines ever since Goenka criticized Rahul after the team’s defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. This outburst led to speculation about Rahul resigning from captaincy even before the season’s end.

However, developments have unfolded differently since then. Ahead of LSG’s match against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, Goenka reportedly invited Rahul for dinner on Monday.

Images of the pair sharing warm embraces and exchanging pleasantries quickly circulated online. The camaraderie between LSG’s key figures was evident both during and after the match against DC.

Rahul, who opted out of wicketkeeping duties as LSG reinstated Quinton de Kock, took a superb catch to dismiss DC batsman Shai Hope. The ball was struck forcefully by the West Indies batter. Although Rahul initially couldn’t grasp it, he lunged forward to grasp the rebound and complete the catch.

Goenka, who was present in the stands, was visibly impressed by the athletic fielding display. The LSG owner was observed applauding and cheering with a wide smile on his face.

The atmosphere remained calm after the match. Once again, LSG found themselves in the second position, effectively ending their chances of making it to the IPL 2024 playoffs. However, unlike the previous encounter against SRH, Goenka accepted the setback gracefully.

He was observed engaging in another discussion with Rahul, but this time, there were no animated gestures. The frown on his face was replaced by a warm smile. The positive turn of events between Goenka and Rahul indicates a promising future for LSG ahead of the mega auctions next year.

The fact that everything is amicable between the LSG owners and Rahul was evident when head coach Justin Langer and assistant coach Lance Klusener dismissed the rumors of a rift.

Both Langer and Klusener described it as a minor issue and emphasized that differences of opinion between management and the captain are a healthy aspect for any team.

DC dashed LSG’s hopes

The Lucknow-based team suffered a 17-run defeat in their second-to-last match of the season. DC posted 208 for four in their crucial match against LSG. Opener Abhishek Porel contributed with a 33-ball 58, while a late surge from Tristan Stubbs (57 not out off 25 balls) propelled DC past the 200-run mark.

In reply, LSG finished at 189 for nine despite commendable fifties from Nicholas Pooran (61 off 27) and Arshad Khan (58 not out off 33).
