Virat Kohli will be missing the last three Tests against Australia due to the birth of his first child. The Indian skipper had already informed the BCCI about the same a while ago and the official announcement of the same was made a couple of days ago.
On the other hand, the BCCI has allowed Rohit Sharma to travel with the squad to Australia. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has chosen his captain in the absence of Virat for the remaining Test matches.
Irfan Pathan Chooses Rohit To Replace Virat Kohli in Australia
Talking to PTI, the cricketer-turned commentator said that Rohit Sharma is the ideal replacement for Kohli as the skipper of the side given his experience. Many have backed Rohit to take up the leadership duties in the absence of Kohli in the Tests.
“On the field it is bound to make a massive difference and it is very tough for anyone to fill his shoes. The way he has performed over the years and in all conditions,” Irfan Pathan said on Rohit Sharma.

Irfan Pathan further said that he has nothing against Ajinkya Rahane, who is the vice-captain of the Test side. Irfan Pathan also said that Rohit Sharma as an opener will also be huge for India against Australia. India play four Tests against Australia as a part of the ICC World Test Championship
“Nothing against Rahane but Rohit has to captain. He is a proven leader and has the required experience.”
“His role as an opener will be equally crucial. He is the guy you want to play in Australia. I remember ODI series in 2008 and he was new but did quite well on Australian pitches. He will be raring to go after the injury. There is nothing more dangerous for the opposition than a hungry Rohit Sharma. Playing abroad is always a tough challenge but when Rohit is in form conditions don’t matter,” said Irfan Pathan.
Rohit has been in the news recently owing to the hamstring injury he suffered in the IPL this season. He missed four back-to-back games for MI and just when he was dropped from the Australian squad owing to his fitness he made a comeback saying that he is absolutely fit.
Now with Virat Kohli missing the last three tests against Australia, Rohit has been included in the side and will fly to with the squad down under.
