All-rounder Hardik Pandya has emerged as a strong future captaincy candidate for the Indian Team after his heroics in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. He led the Gujarat Titans to their maiden title earlier this year in the tournament. The star India cricketer has revealed that he will be more than happy to take up the full-time captaincy role for India in the future.
Hardik Pandya has so far led India in three T20Is and has a 100% success record. He was the vice-captain of the Indian team in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against the West Indies. In the last match, skipper Rohit Sharma decided to rest, letting Hardik take over the captaincy duties. The all-rounder led India to an 88 runs win in the fifth T20I on Sunday, clinching the series 4-1.
When asked whether he would be open to taking up the captaincy role full-time in T20Is, Hardik said he would be happy to do it. Speaking post-match, the Indian all-rounder said as quoted by the Espncricinfo,
“Yeah! why not? If I get an opportunity in the future, I’ll be more than happy to do that, but right now we have the World Cup, and we have the Asia Cup.”
I think preparation-wise or environment-wise, we are 100% ready: Hardik Pandya
With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 just a few months away, Hardik Pandya feels it is crucial to keep learning to perform consistently. The mega-event will take place in Australia, starting in October. Speaking about the preparations, Hardik Pandya expressed that the team is ready for the World Cup, but needs to keep learning and try to win as many games as possible. He said,
It’s just about how we can keep getting better. I think preparation-wise or environment-wise, we are 100% ready, but in this sport, I feel you don’t stop learning. So for us, yes, we are ready, but at the same time if we make sure we keep learning and make sure whenever the opportunity comes, we rise to the occasion and enjoy as many games we can win for the country.”
