IND vs AFG: Records Broken During India’s 6 Wicket Win In The 2nd T20I
Team India

Team India registered a comprehensive 6-wicket win in the 2nd T20I match played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 14th January 2024. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first.

It was an impressive bowling performance by the Indian team as they bowled out Afghanistan for 172. Shivam Dube and Yashvi Jaiswal’s brilliant batting performance led India to a dominating victory with 26 balls to spare with 6 wickets remaining. Virat Kohli looked impressive after returning to the T20I format after 14 months layoff. Both Dube and Jaiswal scored half-centuries with an amazing strike rate.

For his 2 for 17, Axar Patel was named the player of the match award and registered a 2-0 victory with one game to spare.

3 records were broken during India’s 6 wickets versus Afghanistan’s 2nd T20I match.

  1. Rohit Sharma has the most T20I ducks as an Asian player

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma registered an unwanted record in the 2nd T20I match against Afghanistan at Indore. He was dismissed without opening his account trying to hit a big shot against Farooqi.

Rohit Sharma surpasses Soumya Sarkar’s record of most ducks by an Asian in the shortest format. The Indian captain Rohit has now 12 zeroes while Soumya Sarkar has been dismissed for ducks 11 times across 74 innings.

Rohit played his 150th T20I match as a player on 14th January 2024. Rohit Sharma is the second joint with the most number of ducks among full member nations. Paul Stirling has 13 ducks while Kevin O Brien and Rohit Sharma have 12 ducks each.

  1. Worst Economy by Afghanistan Spinners

Afghanistan spinners were taken to the cleaners by the likes of Shivam Dube and Yashvi Jaiswal.  They had the likes of Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmed, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Rashid Khan missed the T20I series due to an injury.

The pitch at Holkar Stadium, Indore was a great batting paradise while there was no assistance for the spinners. All three Afghanistan spinners did not trouble the Indian batters and also did not pick wickets.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman gave away 32 runs in his 2 overs without picking any wickets. Noor Ahmad was included in the playing XI and smashed 35 runs in 3 overs. The experienced Mohammad Nabi gave away 30 runs in his 2 overs. Afghanistan spinners conceded 97 runs in his 7 overs at an economy of 13.85 which is the most expensive in T20I encounter.

  1. Virat Kohli Reached 2000 T20I runs in chases.

Virat Kohli returned to the Indian team in T20I format after missing the first encounter at Mohali due to personal reasons. He featured last time for the Indian team in T20I format during the ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals against England at Adelaide Oval.

Kohli looked in great touch right from the word go putting pressure on Afghanistan bowlers. He scored a quickfire 29 off 16 deliveries. During his quickfire knock, he smashed 5 boundaries and put enough pressure on Afghanistan bowlers.

He reached 2000 runs in T20I run chases. Kohli has now smashed 2012 runs from 46 T20I chases at a stunning average of 71.85. He is just 63 runs away from surpassing Paul Striling’s record of most runs in T20I run chases. Stirling has scored so far 2074 runs.

Kohli hopes to continue his brilliant form with another superb knock in the final T20I match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 17th January.
