Rinku Singh, a prominent batsman for Team India, emphasized the invaluable guidance he received from the former captain, MS Dhoni, which significantly aided him in maintaining composure during challenging situations. Following the 1st T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali, Singh highlighted a conversation he had with Dhoni during the IPL 2023 season.

According to Singh, Dhoni advised him that the bowler’s response should not determine his composure, implying that he should maintain his equilibrium irrespective of external factors. Since his T20I debut last year, Rinku Singh has showcased an impressive performance record. Boasting a remarkable strike rate of 180 in the T20 format, he has also registered a noteworthy half-century.

His recent partnership with Shivam Dube during the match against Afghanistan exemplified his composure under pressure. Remaining unbeaten with a score of 16 off 9 balls, Singh’s pivotal role ensured Team India’s victory.

In a post-match interview with Jio Cinema, Singh expressed his preference for batting at the No.6 position. He elaborated on the unpredictable nature of this position, emphasizing the importance of maintaining calmness, a lesson he learned from Dhoni.

However, the spotlight also shone on Shivam Dube, who was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. Dube’s contribution included scoring 60 runs off 40 deliveries and clinching a crucial wicket in his initial over.

He (Rinku) remarked: “Enjoying batting at this number. Making it a habit of staying not out. Enjoyed batting in the cold a lot. While fielding the ball was hurting and nobody could see much out there (laughs). I try to talk to myself, and tell myself that anything can happen when I bat at No. 6.

In the last IPL, I spoke to Mahi bhai, and he said the more you remain calm the better it is. Try to see what the bowler is doing and react accordingly. If I think too much things can go wrong for me (laughs), so I see what the bowler is doing instead).”

Furthermore, Afghanistan’s commendable effort was evident through the 68-run partnership between Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi, which propelled their team’s total beyond 150 runs. Additionally, Najibullah Zadran’s impactful cameo, where he scored 15 runs off Arshdeep Singh’s final over, significantly influenced the match’s dynamics.
