IND vs AUS: Mohammed Shami Becomes The Third Indian Pace Bowler To Pick 5 Wickets In ODI Format Against Australia

Mohammed Shami joined the list of elite Indian pace bowlers to pick 5 wicket haul in One-day internationals against Australia. He achieved this remarkable feat during the 1st match played at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 22 September 2023.

Shami was included in the playing XI during yesterday’s match. He got India off to a perfect start dismissing dangerous Mitchell Marsh in the first over. Shami looked threatening with discipline lines and lengths not allowing the Australian batters to score runs freely. He was introduced back into the attack getting rid of Steve Smith with a beauty shattering the stumps.

Stoinis and Josh Inglis looked to take the game away from India as Shami got a big wicket of Stoinis. He then dismissed Matthew Short and Sean Abbott in the same over. It was a remarkable bowling effort as Shami ended with figures of 5 for 51 in 10 overs. Shami bowled with great control keeping the pressure on Australian batters and picked wickets when KL Rahul needed the most.

Two Other Indian Pacers To Pick Five Wicket Haul in ODIs against Australia

Apart from Mohammed Shami, there are two other Indian pace bowlers to pick a five-wicket haul against Australia in the ODI format. Shami was at his best during yesterday’s match and made life tough for the opponents.

Kapil Dev became the first Indian pacer to pick five-wicket hauls in ODIs against Australia. He achieved the figures of 5 for 43 in 12 overs during a Group Game played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on 13th June 1983. Despite Kapil Dev’s brilliant performance with the ball, the Indian team lost the match by 162 runs.

Ajit Agarkar registered a famous five-wicket haul during the VB Series match against Australia. He picked up 6 for 42 in the opening match of the VB Series at Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG on 9th January 2004. Despite his brilliance, the Indian team lost the match by 18 runs.
