Rohit Sharma fourth capatin to hit century in all formats

Rohit Sharma proved his credentials with a well-composed century against Australia on the 2nd day of the 1st Test match played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on 10 February 2023.

Starting on the overnight score of 56 runs, Rohit Sharma looked solid against the spinners and took on Pat Cummins with a lovely shot keeping the pressure on Australian bowlers. The debutant Todd Murphy took 2 wickets in quick succession getting rid of R Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara. Rohit Sharma looked solid keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Virat Kohli. India went into the lunch break at 151 for 3.

Right after the lunch break, Virat Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav fell in quick succession to leave India struggling. Rohit Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking along with Ravindra Jadeja. It was composed of innings by Indian captain Rohit to complete his maiden Test century against Australia off 171 deliveries. Rohit and Ravindra Jadeja showed their class as India went into the tea break at 226 for 5.

The Australian captain Pat Cummins took the 2nd new ball immediately and got rid of Rohit Sharma with a beauty. Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma added 61 runs for the 6th wicket. The debutant KS Bharat fell cheaply. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and taking singles at regular intervals.

Steve Smith dropped two chances off Ravindra Jadeja that kept Australia in deep trouble. India ended with the second day in a commanding position with 321 runs on the board for a loss of 7 wickets leading by 144 runs. Jadeja and Patel made half-centuries adding so far 81 runs for the 8th wicket.

Rohit Sharma showed his domination on the first evening with a quickfire knock putting Australia on the back foot.

Australia just managed 177 runs in the first innings as Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked 8 wickets between them.

Other captains to hit centuries across all formats

The other captains to hit centuries across all formats include TM Dilshan with 1 century each in ODIs, T20Is, and Test formats.

Faf du Plessis from South Africa smashed 5 in Test matches, 5 in ODIs, and 1 in the T20I format. Babar Azam hit 4 in Test matches, 6 in ODIs, and 2 in the T20I format.

Rohit Sharma became the fourth captain to hit centuries across all formats. He hit 1 in Test matches, 3 in ODIs, and 2 in T20I format.
