It was a memorable day for Indian Cricket fans as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 2nd double century in this Test series against England on the 4th day of the 3rd Test match played at Rajkot on 18th February 2024.
Jaiswal retired hurt after suffering back problems on day 3. He came after the fall of Shubman Gill’s wicket for 91. The stylish left-handed batter looked cautious taking singles and keeping the scoreboard ticking. He showed intent against the spinners putting them under immense pressure. India went into lunch break at 314 for 4.
After the lunch break, Jaiswal completed his 150 off 192 balls. Jaiswal then upped the ante smashing 3 successive sixes against James Anderson making life tough for England bowlers. It was a brilliant batting display by Jaiswal not allowing them to settle. Jaiswal kept the scoreboard ticking and completed double double-century with a single off 231 balls. He hit some big shots off Joe Root’s bowling that displayed brilliant batting by the youngster. India declared their innings on 430 for 4 as Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 214 from 236 deliveries including 14 fours and 12 sixes.
He became the third Indian after Virat Kohli and Vinod Kambli to score 2 double centuries in successive test matches. Jaiswal proved his worth with a superb 209 in the first innings of the 2nd Test match at Vizag which helped India post 396 runs in the first innings.
Jaiswal looked in supreme touch with his batting putting the England bowlers under tremendous pressure. He began cautiously in the second innings yesterday but launched an all-out attack with lots of sixes that kept the pressure on the inexperienced bowling unit. Jaiswal also became the sixth Indian after MAK Pataudi, Dilip Sardesai, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, and Wasim Jaffer to score a double century in the second innings in the Test match.
