Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was awestruck with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting on the first day of the first Test against England on Thursday, January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. He said the youngsters hadn’t set a foot wrong in the innings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten on 76 runs at the end of the first day’s play in Hyderabad. He slammed nine boundaries and three sixes during the innings, getting India off to a cracking start. He put on an 80-run opening stand with skipper Rohit Sharma. India was trailing by 127 runs, in response to England’s 246 in the first innings at the end of day one. Speaking to the broadcasters, Ravichandran Ashwin said,
“The start given us by Jaiswal and Rohit made us breathe a little easier. Need someone to go on and score a hundred. (Jaiswal start in Tests) He’s not put a foot wrong, playing some shots. I’m enjoying watching it!”
The pitch was pretty interesting: Ravichandran Ashwin
Team India bowlers pulled off a brilliant performance on the first day of the Hyderabad test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. They bowled out the visitors for 246 runs, with Ben Stokes being the only batter to score a fifty. The spin trio was at its best, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picking up three wickets each. Meanwhile, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah took two each.
“Thought it was pretty interesting (the pitch), maybe a bit of moisture early on. Then I thought it just slowed down. Got to mix your pace up. (England score). We thought 240 was competitive, 30-40 more than we liked,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will resume the Indian innings on the second day. Gill is unbeaten on 14 runs and has put on a 49-run with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
