India

Team India registered an impressive 5-wicket win over England in the fourth Test match played at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi on 26th February 2024. There were many good performances as Jurel showed great resistance with 90 and 39 helping India recover from tough situations in both innings.

India looked in trouble with a massive deficit at the end of day 2. Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav’s partnership ensured that the hosts reduced the lead to just 46. It was a tremendous performance by Indian spinners to bowl out England for 145.

Despite their win in the fourth test, some major concerns could have cost the Indian team and allowed England back into the match.

Here we look at the 3 biggest concerns for Team India despite their win over England:

  1. Struggle Against Inexperienced England spinners.

The Indian Cricket Team struggled against the inexperienced spinners of Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley. Shoaib Bashir showed consistent lines and lengths grabbing 5 wickets in the first innings and also took 3 wickets in 2nd innings.

Hartley also bowled well in the first innings grabbing 3 wickets and taking 1 wicket in the 2nd innings but could not help England win the match. The Indian batters have not been able to dominate the inexperienced spin duo of Hartley and Bashir.

There have been some brilliant performances from India in the entire series that led them to series victory. The pitches have been good for batting across all four test matches so far.

  1. Rajat Patidar’s poor performance

Rajat Patidar’s performance in the 3rd Test match was a disappointing outing for him. He looked decent during the first innings but could not convert into a big score being dismissed by Shoaib Bashir.

He could open his account in the 2nd innings again dismissed by Shoaib Bashir. Patidar made his Test debut during the 2nd Test match at Vizag. His best score in the entire series has been 32.

His place could be in danger for the fifth test match to be played at Dharamshala from 7th March onwards if KL Rahul gets fit.

  1. Rohit Sharma’s causal dismissals

Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply in the first innings by James Anderson. He looked impressive during the second innings with well made 50 and gave a brilliant start putting on 84 runs for the opening wicket that laid a strong foundation.

He tried to step down the track and was stumped by Foakes leaving India in some trouble. Rohit Sharma got starts in the entire series but was not able to convert into big scores. His best score came during the first innings of 131 in the 2nd Test at Vizag which helped India to recover from a tough situation.
