During the third Test match against England in Rajkot, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma playfully ribbed Ravindra Jadeja over his performance, particularly his bowling, about the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite Jadeja’s earlier century, he struggled with the ball, conceding 33 runs in 4 overs, including two no-balls.
Rohit Sharma humorously remarked during the 31st over of the England innings that Jadeja usually doesn’t bowl so many no-balls in the IPL, suggesting he treat the game as if it were a T20 match. In the same match, England opener Ben Duckett displayed aggressive batting, scoring a century to lead England’s response. This was particularly notable as it came after Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the milestone of 500 Test wickets.
Duckett’s left-handed onslaught saw him reach his third Test hundred in just 88 balls, contributing significantly to England’s total of 207-2 by the end of play on Friday.
Rohit Sharma said: “Yaar, ye Jadeja IPL mein to itne no-balls nahi dalta. T20 samajh ke bowling kar, Jaddu. (Man, Jadeja doesn’t bowl this many no-balls in IPL. Think it’s a T20 game and bowl).”
Duckett, alongside Joe Root, who was on nine not out, remained at the crease as the tourists trailed India by 238 runs. Duckett’s innings was marked by assertive stroke play, including a partnership of 84 runs with Zak Crawley, who fell victim to Ashwin’s historic 500th Test wicket.
With this achievement, Ashwin joined an elite group of international bowlers, becoming only the ninth player and the second Indian, after Anil Kumble, to reach the 500-wicket milestone in Test cricket.
