“My Wrong Call” – Ravindra Jadeja Apologises After Sarfaraz Khan’s Run Out

India’s versatile player, Ravindra Jadeja, expressed remorse to newcomer Sarfaraz Khan for his role in the run-out incident during the ongoing 3rd Test in Rajkot. Sarfaraz, poised for an impressive innings at 62, fell victim to a misunderstanding with Jadeja, resulting in his premature departure from the crease.

The mishap, orchestrated by a miscommunication, saw Mark Wood execute a direct run-out, leaving Sarfaraz stranded at the non-striker’s end. Acknowledging his error, Jadeja took to social media after the day’s play, admitting to the misjudgment that cost Sarfaraz his wicket. Despite the setback, Sarfaraz had shown promise, racing to a half-century off 48 balls, prompting speculation of a potential debut century.

Jadeja, on the verge of a personal milestone at 99, was at the crease when the unfortunate incident occurred, eliciting frustration from India’s captain Rohit Sharma, who vented his displeasure by tossing his cap in the dressing room. Sarfaraz lamented the dismissal as a consequence of miscommunication, underscoring the need for clearer on-field communication to avert such occurrences in the future.

Sarfaraz Khan said: “It is a part of the game. Miscommunication happens in cricket. Sometimes run-out happens, sometimes you get the runs. I spoke to Jadeja at lunch time and requested him to talk to me while playing. I like talking while playing. It was my first time. I told him that when I go out to bat, keep talking to me while playing. He kept talking and supported me a lot while I was batting.”

For any athlete, enduring years of consistent performance in domestic cricket without earning a national team opportunity is a formidable challenge. Upon finally receiving his chance, Sarfaraz remarked that the experience of international cricket closely resembled that of domestic play, albeit with some notable distinctions.
