The Indian squad for the third and fourth Test series against England will be announced by the national selection committee soon. The focus during the selection meeting will be on Jasprit Bumrah’s workload. The third test will kick off on February 15 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Jasprit Bumrah powered the Indian team to an emphatic win in the second Test of the series at Vishakhapatnam. He took a nine-wicket haul in the match and is the leading wicket-taker in the series so far with 15 wickets. Ahead of the third Test match, the selectors will face the dilemma of managing their workload in the five-match series. The pacer has bowled close to 58 overs across the two Test matches.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the selectors in their initial discussions were thinking about resting Jasprit Bumrah and bringing in Mohammed Siraj as his replacement. Siraj was rested for the second Test by the selectors. However, deliberations between Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar seem to have led to a re-evaluation of this decision. The final verdict will be known after the announcement of the squad.
Ravindra Jadeja, and KL Rahul likely to be back in the team for the third and fourth test
Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul missed the second test match against England at Visakhapatnam due to varying reasons. Cricbuzz reported that KL Rahul’s return to the team seems imminent. The right-handed batter sat out of the second Test due to a quad strain. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion depends on the assessment of his hamstring injury by the team management. Both of them are likely to be included in the squad for the third and fourth Tests.
Team India will be without the services of Virat Kohli, who also missed the first two tests of the ongoing series. He has taken a leave of absence for the entire five-Test series due to a family emergency, reported Cricbuzz.
