It was a great opening session for the Indian Team as overnight batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored centuries at HPCA Stadium, Dharmshala on 8th March 2024.

Starting on the overnight score of 135 for 1, Rohit Sharma began the day on a positive note smashing Shoaib Bashir, putting England bowlers under pressure. Rohit Sharma played according to merit, keeping the momentum with big shots. Gill was at his best smashing Anderson for a straight six.

Gill looked in sublime touch keeping the scoreboard reaching his fifty off 64 balls. It was a sensational batting display by Rohit and Gill, not allowing the England bowlers to settle. Zak Crawley dropped a tough chance at leg slip to get rid of Rohit Sharma. Both batters showed intent against Shoaib Bashir hitting him for sixes while playing the pace bowlers including Mark Wood and James Anderson brilliantly.

Shubman Gill looked severe against the spinners coming down the track and hitting them for big shots. Rohit Sharma also showed his class putting England bowlers under immense pressure. The Indian captain Rohit completed a century off 154 balls while Shubman Gill also completed the milestone of 137 balls. It was a brilliant batting performance by Gill and Rohit as they ended the first session at 264 for 1.

Both Indian batters put on so far 160 runs for the 2nd wicket. India went into the lunch break with a lead of 46 runs. Rohit Sharma remained not out on 102 off 160 balls with 13 fours and 3 sixes while Shubman was unbeaten at 101 off 142 deliveries including 10 fours and 5 sixes that helped India go into the lunch break in a dominating position.

Both Indian batters played the spinners brilliantly keeping the scoreboard ticking and not allowing a chance for England bowlers.
